Mar 19, 2010 Ocean Floor Covered with Trash

Deseret News had a provocative story by Zeke Barlow on Ocean floor littered with trash, including kitchen sink.  Barlow wrote:  “Everyone knows there are plastic bags, plastic foam cups and aluminum cans bobbing in the ocean, but what lies on the floor 1,200 feet beneath the surface of California's seas?  Turns out there is junk down there, too, including fishing lines, nets, teapots, old artillery shells and, yes, even a kitchen sink.  In a first-of-its-kind study, a team of researchers spent more than a decade looking at the trash on the floor off the California coast trying to determine how much was there and what kind of impact it was having.”  

He said that the amount of debris off central California doubled from the 1990s to 2007. The study looked only at trash on the ocean floor, not at the millions of pieces of debris floating in the sea that cause untold damage when fish eat them.  Recreational fishing line made up the majority of the trash that was found.  The amount increased from the 1990s until 2007 with debris from commercial fishing the second biggest contributor, the percentage of which didn't change over that time.  The rest was attributed to people living and playing along the shore — the trash included bottles, cans and cables — and it increased significantly over time. 

The story added that one of the big problems is that the trash is deep in the ocean where no light reaches it so it never breaks down from the sunlight.  And because it stays there for centuries and there is likely going to be more trash in the future, there is no easy solution in sight. 

Comment:  We are turning the great oceans into garbage dumps.  Few people seem to realize that when the oceans go, we will all be dead.  The oceans supply some 70% of our oxygen, moisture for rain over land and untold other benefits.

Mar 22, 2010 Rotarix vaccine used on millions of children was contaminated

CNN News had this report by Tom Watkins on Rotarix rotavirus vaccine contaminated, officials say.  Per the report, some 1 million children in the United States and about 30 million worldwide received the Rotarix vaccine, per the FDA says.  Federal health authorities recommended Monday that doctors suspend using Rotarix, one of two vaccines licensed in the United States against rotavirus, saying the vaccine is contaminated with material from a pig virus.

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr Margaret Hamburg said:  “There is no evidence at this time that this material poses a safety risk.”  Rotarix, made by GlaxoSmithKline, was approved by the FDA in 2008. The contaminant material is DNA from porcine circovirus 1, a virus from pigs that is not known to cause disease in humans or animals, Hamburg said.

Hamburg added:  “We're not pulling it from the market, we're just suspending its use during this period while we're collecting more information.”  Going on, she said “It should not be in this vaccine product and we want to understand how it got there.  It's not an easy call and we spent many long hours debating the pros and cons but, because we have an alternative product and because the background rates of this disease are not so severe in this country, we felt that the judicious thing to do was to take a pause, to really ask the critical questions about what this material was doing in the vaccine, how it got there.:

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said “a substantial amount” of the DNA was found in the vaccine. But, he stressed, “there is no evidence that it causes any disease... There is no evidence that it ever does anything.”  Hamburg noted that a similar virus, porcine circovirus 2, does not cause disease in humans, but it does cause disease in its pig host.

Mar 25, 2010 Gene Research Reveals Fourth “Human Species”

London Financial Times had an article by Clive Cookson on “Gene research reveals fourth human species” which reported that a fourth type of hominid, besides Neanderthals, modern humans and the tiny hobbit, was living as recently as 40,000 years ago, according to research published in the journal Nature.

The story said that the discovery was based on DNA sequences from a finger bone fragment discovered in a Siberian cave.  Until recently scientists believed there were just two members of the genus Homo alive at the time: Neanderthals whose ancestors left Africa 400,000 years ago, and modern humans, who left about 50,000 years ago. The picture changed in 2003 when archaeologists found remains of a third species, the tiny hobbit, which had survived on the Indonesian island of Flores until 14,000 years ago.  The identification of a fourth species was alleged to be more significant because it was not an isolated population but lived in the centre of the Eurasian continent, where Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens were also supposedly present.

Apr 8, 2010 A Reader’s email on the Question of Racially Mixed Marriages

A reader of this material sent in the following email:

Please permit me to express my view under respect of the burningly topical issue of miscegenation.  I am from the twin-island, English-speaking Caribbean republic of Trinidad & Tobago.  As a mixed-race person of Northwest European (Irish & Scottish), Southern European (Spanish), African and Indian descent, I struggled with my own identity and sense of self-worth for years.  I was dark blond as a child, but have progressively darkened into adulthood.  As an adult my features reflect my hybrid heritage: I am tall, light-skinned (though somewhat tanned), and oval-faced like a "Nordic" individual, but also have obvious non-Caucasian features consistent with my other bloodlines.  I do not look "white," but I also do not look typically "Trinbagonian" either. I don't even closely resemble the typical "mulatto" person, if there is such a thing as a "typical mulatto."

Let me say that I am a Christian, stoutly upholding the Lordship of Christ Jesus. I believe that God loves all men equally, and that He desires intimate, personal fellowship with every one.  Nevertheless, my painful personal journey as a human "mongrel" has molded me into a diehard opponent of interracial marriage and racial hybridization, despite its increasing prevalence and acceptance in our society. 

I must also – in the interest of aligning myself with undeniable truth – unequivocally concede that the white, Caucasian race is the flag-bearer and universal super-glue of civilization on this planet. Mature human beings of whatever race or ethnicity must have the testicular and vetebral fortitude to face the facts unflinchingly, accepting them for what they are.  And the reality – politically incorrect though it may be to say so – is that the decline and collapse of the white, Caucasian race – particularly the "Nordid" groups – would spell disaster for the entirety of humanity.  Personally, I would certainly regard it as a terrible tragedy. Nevertheless, I refuse to believe that God will allow such a nightmare to become reality!

PS -- I strongly disagree with the incredibly naive position of some White Nationalists in one important regard: I firmly believe that non-Caucasian immigration to Europe, Australia, United States, Canada, etc., must not be reduced to a bare minimum -- it must be stopped ALTOGETHER…

Comment:  My reply said:  Thanks much for your email and remarks.  I note that miscegenation has been so extensive thru out the world for the past 6000 years that there are probably no more pure White, Black, Red or Yellow-Brown people left.  In most places the mixing continues to create whole new ethnic groups--like the Philippines.  Now, in DNA tests, it is amazing how extensive the mixing has been.  Most American Whites have Negro genes and most Blacks have Caucasian genes.  But the thing about each and all of this mixed up six billion people or so is that none of us can do anything about what our ancestors did to produce us today.  I argue that the only thing we can do is be honest and try to live a morally upright position in terms of others.  But ancient and Orthodox Judaism has the right slant on racial mixing.  Who should another mamzer (mixed person) marry?  Why he should marry another mamzer just like himself.  So we all should try to stick to our own kind to benefit our children and offspring who need to have belonging to others in life.
